Relieve Back Pain By Improving Bad Posture

By admin

Our modern lifestyle has been responsible for making people increasingly suffer from back pain. The work stress and other work-related pressures only serves to make back pain worse. There are several medical techniques that are suggested to relieve back pain.

However, the easiest and one of the most effective ways of curing back pain does not involve the use of medicines. Only the proper body postures can do the trick of removing back pain. In fact, correcting bad posture is one of the best ways to ensure that people not find relief for back pain but also never even suffer from it.

Corrective Posture Techniques
Improving posture is extremely crucial in order to eliminate back pain. The first and the basic factor that needs to be considered is to keep the position of the back straight while working or while doing tasks like reading, writing, sitting etc.

A straight back ensures that the spine is erect and free from any problems that can crop up due to bad posture. Another very important factor is to provide posture support to help keep the back in the perfect posture. This support can be provided by using proper chairs or by hard pillows and cushions and several other ways.

It is not just the working or the office posture that need to be concentrated upon. Even the way a person sleeps can cause back pain. Thus, it implies that people can also gain by improving sleeping postures. Sleeping on hard mattresses can help to relieve back pain in a considerable way.

There are several devices, such as posture support braces, which can be used to encourage good posture or even reverse bad posture in order to eliminate back pain. There are specially designed lower back wraps that can be easily tied around the lower back. These wraps can be very useful maintaining a straight back and also reduce back pain if an individual suffers from it.

Similarly there are lumber supports that can be tied around the back for a better back posture. There are also methods like tai chi and yoga for back pain that can ensure that individuals never sit with a curved back. People can overcome the problem of back pain permanently with the help of yoga and tai chi techniques.

Thus, maintaining proper back posture and improving bad posture in many cases can mean freedom from any back pain medicines and complex treatment. These are simple techniques and can be easily followed by people of all ages.

How to relieve female back pain and posture?
I took a dance class and the teacher kept telling me to straighten my back everytime I had to revele (position similiar to walking on your tiptoes). She told me that when I straightened my back I gained an inch in height, so I’ve been keeping a straight back whenever possible. I figured my back muscles would eventually become used to being in proper posture.

While doing this I’ve noticed my shoulders tend to slump forward whenever I’m in a relaxed position, so I roll them back to keep them straight. I’m constantly fighting myself not to hunch over.

I’ve been doing this for over four weeks now and everyday my upper and lower back hurt. I have no idea what is "relaxed" now, because when I do "relax" like I used to the muscles hurt and keeping them in proper posture also hurts me. Sometimes I feel so stiff that I feel like I’m going to break. I only wear sports bras, do not have scoliosis (x-rayed for that years ago), and in perfect health.

Anyone have any ideas?
I forgot to mention that I’be had lower back problems for years, though minor, and have increased tenfold now.

I think you should see a chiropractor. my sister had a similar problem and he has done wonders for her!!!

Sirius – Phil Connors here. Listen, get to the gym! You don’t have to become all muscular and bulky but I can assure you that lifting weights will do several things for you. It will strengthen your muscles and boost your self-esteem. I’m not saying you have self-esteem issues, I’m just saying that lifting weights will really make you feel good about yourself. It will also strengthen your bones. If you have an tendencies towards osteoporosis or anything like that, resistance training will slow that process. Finally, your new found strength, confidence and positive self-esteem from your newly toned body will have you looking and walking and dancing like the star you were meant to be. So, get to they gym. I did and it changed my life! Good luck, Phil.

I have had two friends in my life thus far who have had breast reduction because they were just to top heavy for there body.

Could this be the problem? Maybe your chest is to big and it is hurting you back and shoulders, making posture bad? Something to think about….

By the way both girls said they felt so much better after surgery. I personally never had this problem and after talking with them do not want this problem….Something men do not have to deal with…..

I suffer from back problems and I’m told to sit straight. I have been doing it for about 7 months now and when I catch myself slouching, I pick myself up and feel much better. I lay my back on a medicine ball and stay arched for about ten seconds and that relieves a lot of the pain from the day. You have to do this every day for the back to feel the full effects. Practicing some yoga moves that involve stretching your back is a good idea. My spine specialist recommended a book by the 7 Steps to a Pain Free Life by Rob Mckenzie, the inventor of the Mckenzie method which is what most rehabilitation clinics use to help people with injuries recover. You buy that book and I guarantee your back won’t hurt. I was in pain for about six months due to a herniated disc and the methods in this book helped with the pain.

P.S. As someone stated previously, a chiropractor will help. I go every so often myself and get vitamin B12 shots.

We all have a tendency to ’slump’ when we do certain things, especially now with the time we spend on computers. Now you become conscious about it and have gotten sore trying to change your posture.

Focus on basic lumbar and thoracic back exercises that use basic body weight and repetitions for resistance. If you want to be trendy, think Pilates. However, most basic core stabilization programs utilize similar motions. Normal terms for spine stabilizing & postural exercises include birddogs, quadrupeds, and planks. (use those if doing a Yahoo search on back stabilization exercise)

From personal experience a few years ago I learned something. For years I’ve dealt with athletes with low back pain. Then I developed a bulging disk my self. (Got up to come to work and my left toes were numb.) I had to treat myself through McKenzie exercises. After years of be a morning jogger, I had to rely on walking for exercise. I’m convinced that walking was my most important exercise. Instead of leaning forward like running, when I walked I was able to focus on staying upright with an arch in my low back to relieve disk pressure. The pace allowed you to focus on mechanics.

That’s a big key with back exercises. Slow and controlled to focus on technique. You may need a PT or ATC to help you learn proper technique.

I have co-workers who have ‘cured’ their back problems by practicing yoga. I have used yoga to improve my posture…I tended to hunch forward and slouch.
I had another co-worker who used acupuncture, massage, and chiropractice…she still thinks yoga was the most effective and with the lowest cost.
You might also want to strengthen your ‘core’ by doing pilates. There are so many benefits from having a strong core.

Try sleeping on your back rather than slightly curled on your side (if you don’t already.) My posture is less than wonderful, but I find that I walk with wonderful posture, but when I sit, I slouch really bad. Keep working on trying to train yourself. I agree with the other person that spoke of lifting weights. That has helped me greatly and I feel it has strengthened the muscles to allow me to stand straighter.

I tried lots of things and was told about a self help that works well for me. You lie on your back and put feet about shoulder lenght apart about 2′ up on a wall, shoulder blades to the floor. Gently push on your legs against the wall and then relax and repeat. Works the lower back and spine. Also, I am a singer and need to keep good posture while performing. It is typical that my lower back hurts from the stress when I wake up the next day. It hurts less if I pay attention to posture.
