How many inches do you lose off your height from bad posture?
Im 16, and have bad posture. I’m only 5′1. If i began to get a better posture, how much taller would that make me?
If your shoulders and upper back are rounded, you could easily gain an inch simply by standing straighter. Try this:
Have someone measure you in your normal bad posture. Then stand with your back against the wall, your heels touching the wall. (If you are overweight, your buttock area might make it too difficult to align against the wall in the above exericse. Instead, do the exercise in a doorjamb with your back and sacrum touching the door jamb.)
Straighthen up, so that your back, shoulers, and the back of your head all touch the wall. (If your posture is bad, this will seem like work at first!)
Now you are in near perfect posture. Have someone measure you and see how much you’ve grown. You won’t just look taller, you’ll probably look like you’ve dropped ten pounds too, so what’s not to like?
Correcting bad posture permanently will require you to build your core posture support muscles. This takes time and patience, but is well worth your effort. You can use some of the corrective posture exercises on this site to get you started.
